DIVORCE BY MEDIATION

Meredith Cohen is a family mediator who mediates for divorcing couples who do not have attorneys in Central Florida. In Florida couples may obtain divorces without attorneys. He helps couples work out  their own settlement agreements covering such divorce issues as child custody, visitation, calculation of child support based on the Florida Child Support Guideline Law, alimony, division of marital assets and debts. Then drawing on his experience as a divorce lawyer for over 30 years, Meredith helps the couple reduce the agreement reached in mediation to a written Marital Settlement Agreement, and helps them fill out the Petition for Divorce (Dissolution of Marriage), Answer and Waiver, Final Judgment of Divorce, Financial Affidavits, Child Support Guideline Worksheets, and the other court documents the couple will need to obtain their divorce without attorneys. Meredith in every case recommends that, before signing, the couple take the papers to two separate attorneys for a consultation and legal advice on whether it is in their best interest to sign.

Couples have found that the cost of divorce using Meredith’s mediation approach is much less than the retainer fees and additional fees of  two attorneys employed to battle the case out in court. Such retainer fees in Central Florida can be $2,000.00 or more per party, costing the family $4,000.00 or more. Meredith  accepts Mastercard and Visa. The divorce Final Judgmentcan can be signed by the Judge in about 6 weeks from the first visit rather than 6 months to a year or longer in cases with attorneys.

Meredith gives a free separate telephone consultation to the Husband and the Wife explaining divorce mediation, his fee and anything else they want to know about their divorce.

If  the couple is able to communicate with each other without anger and hostility, mediation will be an excellent alternative to a court battle. The first mediation session is then scheduled and work sheets are mailed out to be completed and brought to the session. Meredith has written a book "Divorce by Mediation - See a Mediator Before Seeing Attorneys - Save Thousands" which may be ordered by clicking on Book Purchase Order Form on this web site. Reading the book will give you more information on Meredith’s mediation approach to divorce, show you some of the forms, and let you follow a fictitious couple through the process.
